Images are small dots called pixels. The word pixel stands for PICture ELement. A picture is formed whenever these pixels are gathered close enough together to form an image. You can view the pixels in your computer screen when using a magnifying glass. Hold it up close and see all the wonderful colors which produces the image on your screen. 

     A megapixel is a pixel count by multiplying the horizontal pixels by the vertical pixels. This is known as finding the area of a square in mathmatics. A high quality camera with a low megapixel number can produce as amazing photos as a lower quality camera with a high megapixel number.  

    
     A large photo is viewed from a distance and a small photo is viewed closer up. The larger megapixel number in a digital camera will produce more crisp, clear larger photos such as an 8 x 10, or an 11 x 14.  A 5x7, or 3 x 5 will be a fabulous asset to any photo album or picture frame by using a 2.0 - 4.0 megapixel digital camera.
